Three Challenges : Setting it up, having staff trained to use and understand what they are doing, and keeping data safe in this new transfer of data phase.

An example would be multiple data bases of info not being compatible in the constant back and forth of Data exchange.

1; Messaging between suppliers and customers using different systems for example SAP and a small supplier using a very small system using baseline as a bridge communications are instant and also recorded on blockchain for record

2: shipping and tracking. By using baseline all permitted users can track all info on progress of the shipment, location time of delivery etc…

3: Data integrity by using Baseline all users share the same data and the and all data is verified and recorded on blockchain

Each company across the globe have different technological infrastructures, which in turn doesn’t give an accurate view of their business. Data silos stop from having a clear view of an organisations performance, they also lead to a bad customer experience as data can be left in a trail instead of being streamlined for easy access.
As data is gold for any business, data silos pose a threat to data accuracy as well as wasting storage space as data gets outdated which could pose a threat to their data security.

Three challenges in business integration are;

Data integrity would be a great sales point for any blockchain business accounting/logistics program due to its immutability of information on each block.

  1. Changing requirements - during business integration different systems have to change their own requirement and expectations such that they could integrate with each other, but normally there’s no easy way for different systems to be made compatible with one another.
  2. Security - the security level of different systems during integration are different and some of them may be too obsolete that it’s nearly impossible to step up or upgrade their security level such that all components could be aligned to fulfill the overall security level of integrated system.
  3. Cost Estimate - the cost estimated at different stages of the integration project may varies due to a lot of factors like inflation, changes in vendors, corporate restructure during the integration project, other unexpected changes to the plan, etc.
  1. Coding processes: processes need to be coded and there can be errors in the transcription.

  2. Reconciliation of information between different systems: different systems usually result in inneficient processes as information has to be reconciliated in order to verify it is correct.

  3. Updating workflows: if a process or a tool changes, processes have to recoded again, being veryinneficient,

    Costs can change due to several factors such as inflation, change in prices of raw materials etc. and therefore difficult to estimate.

Right now there is no universal digital ID, each form of your digital ID is silo’ed.

An example could be an SAP Digital Tranformation Implementation in the the fashion or media industry which has many data points and works in mulitiple countries, languages. The complexity of the dynamics of each of the localizations can cause delays in the project delivery. Blockchain can provide the needed transaprency to affect these implementations in a positive, streamline the processes and remove the silos existing today.

Challenges in the field of business integration:

  • Data silos- business data spread across different islands in the cloud and entrepreneur ERP and this make data inaccessible or unreadble to some who could benefit from it.

  • Technical requirements- Integrating these different systems require expertise, capital outlay and time that most small and medium companies can not afford

  • Messaging and notifications- messaging platform’s formats vary across external business partner ,therefore data must be converted into a standardized format for transfer and rules governing messaging process has to be predefined.

Example: A large business can have a lot of siloed departments with their own data and legacy systems and processes. To integrate these is not only a technical challenge but also a change management challenge. People have to change their ways of working which can be harder than implementing new technologies. A business that’s is being acquired by another business will have these issues.

1: System integration until now has been a big hinder for companies and businesses as there has been no real pathway to integrate nuance technology(blockchain) to traditional technology which can greatly improve productivity and service.

2: Silos are greatly a problem. having to go via various procedures and systems to access data is not ideal in the new digital age.

3: Time and cost is probably the biggest factor here. Anyone or any system that can save a company/business, time and cost, is valuable. the ‘workflow design’ in the UB templates package will help to lower the cost of hiring developers therefore also saving time.

For example if Nice Bank would like to implement this solution. Lets say Nice bank has the data on different system. One system for accounting transactions, other for customer private data, other for internal reporting… How does the different system could be integrated in one single blockchain solution ? Also, the maintenance of this could be done by existing IT team at the company. Do the existing users need to input the information in a different way? How about information silos at the company store in different departments? My question is that this may be too costly to integrate this data into blockchain. Other type of risk is how secure and if it will be compliance with the company, to make sure no third party has access to it.

Lack of an effective digital transformation strategy: Without a detailed strategy that addresses the ‘What’, the ‘Why’, the ‘When’ and the ‘How’, implementation will only serve to frustrate those affected. It is important to create a compelling vision for what the technology is and what it’s going to do. The users will need to know how the new technology will improve their lives and how it will positively disrupt their routine. All the benefits and impacts of the change will need to be presented in a detailed strategy program, which should also consider the impact on the business, it’s employees, suppliers and customers.

Lack of communication and involvement: In order to increase early and rapid adoption, it is beneficial to get everyone aware of the upcoming integration. Being transparent with the new integration and sharing the transformation strategy and objectives will go a long way in making the audience feel part of the change. It might be ideal to demonstrate the new service offerings and the economic and rational benefits for the organisation and the individual. Get everyone to understand why the new technology is an improvement from what they had before. It is considerate to bear the users’ interest in mind, as functionality and user-friendliness will be critical to them.

The absence of Change Champions: It is critical to get a team of technology endorsers, early in the implementation stage, who will talk positively about the new technology and create excitement. Once the change is communicated, the team can further deal with concerns or uncertainties, and communicate benefits to those impacted, on a one-on-one basis.

Lack of training and upskilling: It is vital to identify, manage, train and upskill those impacted by the new technology. For those who are not tech-savvy, training maybe seen as a challenge, so it is advisable to run comparative pilots and encourage them to do trials and get feedback. This will help guide the type, method and intensity of training required.

Instability: Before any new technology can be integrated or implemented, those in charge must first spend time researching and identifying possible risks that might result in inability and ineffectiveness of the new technology. To avoid such, a pilot operation to serve as experiment and prove technical feasibility, will be required.
