Assignment 3: Integration Challenge & Use Case

  1. Introduction of this new technology to existing/new customers and employees can take time, patience required to accept change.

  2. Updating current systems information, time needed to complete network.

  3. Errors in the code transcription of smart contracts, a developer may be needed to support. adequate resources to reference protocol.

3 challenges could be:

1.Data consistency
2.Data silos
3.Data Protection

Unfortunately one of the main issues enterprises face today is that fully integrated information systems largely stop the moment the data leaves their front-door.
Knowing the details of what your organization has in its databases is one thing. Synchronizing what you know with what other counter-parties know is an entirely different challenge altogether.
What is needed is an arbiter of truth between counter-parties who donā€™t necessarily trust one another; an intermediary to say whatā€™s true and what isnā€™t. Take the not-so-simple example of managing purchase data between multiple counter-parties in a supply-chain. How do we know which system of record to trust when they could have competing incentives and/or misaligned data.

The silo structure of companies with their own data integrity, you can control the technology and processes that are providing valid data between different data silos.

Business integration challanges:

  • Data integrity
  • Security
  • Cheap solution for small businesses

Data integrity ā€“ this can be a challange for example if you have two completely different partners. One partner has a big business and is running on SAP. Other partner has a small business and does not have an ERP system ā€“ he uses for example excel sheets. This could be a problem because SAP contains a huge amount of fields and every field has a standard definition, in some cases company has their own customized fields with its own company definition. Whereas the small business having small amount of fields needed and these fields can also have completely different names in comparison with SAP. This data has to be mapped properly in blockchain so fields correspond to each other and data integrity is preserved.

Challenges:

Technical integrity
Data integrity
Security

Example: Inside a insurance company they manage the clients information with multiple databases with different softwares. When they need to integrate all the data into just one database they have problems of compatibility and duplicated cases.

The main challenges for business integration are:
1 - To automate the process of making the environment compliant for the Baseline protocol.
(By the click of button all the proper parameters are setup for the Baseline Protocol usage)
2 - State management
(By keeping track of all exchanged statuses between involved parties)
3 - Controlling & Changing Flow
(being able to change the workflow at any point in time if required)
4 - Data Integrity
(being able to see the routes where data has been sent to and received from)

Wow boss example :+1:

  1. Data Silos
  2. Data integrity
  3. Cost Efficiency

Data silos and data integrations leads to high costs and efforts in case of M&A activities, due to the fact, that all companies have there own systems, data visions and protocols. This makes it difficult to combine data into a single system or let them communicate in a proper way.

  • Data Integration
  • Technical Integration
  • MEssage delivery and exchange

No experience in big supply purchases but I can imagine SAP and or D365 must have different software structures and they mustnā€™t be the only ones in the ERP market probably. Different structured applicationsā€™ operations need a data integration process, probably that processes have been going with eventual bulky verifications on paper and delivery in excessive ways.

Integration Challenge and Use Case - Assignment 3:

3 Integration Challenges.
The act of linking together different systems and software applications physically or functionally to act as a coordinated whole has it challenges, some of which are mentioned below:

  1. State Management - This is to make sure that all parties keep track of the messages sent and activities as it happens and recorded. For example, cancellations of goods and services.

  2. Data Integrity - to make sure that different parties are in possession of the different format. Example, mapping out - keeping track of where all information is sent and to whom.

  3. Cost Estimate -tracking of resources that is spent. For example money and time spent to evaluate the cost / benefit analysis in comparison to the last process done before.

Both private & public businesses want to keep their secrets. If I hold an advantage over a business partner is it worth it to create efficiency or should my company keep working that advantage.

All companies have different levels of integration which range from funding & human capital with the skill set to integrate which creates walls between the large and small.

Corporate culture of eat or be eaten creates a mistrust between potential business partners ~ guess trust-less may be the answer. . .

  1. Changing Requirements
  2. Security
  3. Data siloā€™s

A company has its own system (ERP & CRM) and data, that itā€™s very different and canā€™t be linked/ synchronized to other systems of partners or customers.

Business integration challenges

  1. Messaging communication throughout the workflow
  2. Data integrity needs to be be maintained across silos
  3. Security - data should be encrypted when being sent across different systems.

1- Notifications
2- Changing Requirements
3- Security

Example: A challenge for business integration is when there is a change in some part, for example, an order, everyone that is intervenient in that order should be notified and be sure that all saw the notification.

3 challenges in business data integration :

  • Data tracing : traceability, where and when does the data come from
  • Data immutability : keep every transaction, settlement in an immutable history (losing data can be a problem facing IRS for example)
  • Data flow in processes : nowadays data is transmitted in many different forms through processes : email, audio, different file format. This is a particular challenge when transacting externally (B2C or B2B)
  • Data integrity
  • Control Flow
  • Security

For security reasons you need some privacy and most known blockchains are all public.

Iā€™ve been having a hard time wrapping my head around enterprise blockchain technology and this example helped out immensely!

Challenges of business integration:

	- State management (keeping a record of what has happened)
	- Data integrity (= mapping: keeping track of where all the messages have been
	 sent to )
	- technical integrity (different protocols have to be orchestrated to communicate
with all parties in the business interaction process)

Possible use case:

Milestone based project management. For example when building a skyscraper there are different contractors and subcontractors that will be engaged and payed according to a) time , b) milestones or steps of the works done, like foundations, structure, fassade or installations. When multiple parties interact there are always delays and misunderstandings that affect the workflow and often the works suffers penalties, which result in time- and energy-consuming discussions on who is responsible. Baselining the project management ensures the integration of all participants no matter the size and automates certain proofs (certifications and for expl. partial payments) with transparency.

keeping track of products in the supply chain, supermarkets
there is one main man who controls the database hacks are easy, security, universities
cost efficient because you donā€™t have to make all the databases the same, all business

  1. Technical integrity
  2. Data Security
  3. Data silos

In a big company, different department may use different databases with different software and sometimes they may combability problems to integrate them. Baseline solves all of this ensuring different people access at different levels of information.
