Homework: On-chain Governance

Proposal #76 : To create a parachain lease offering dashboard.

This proposal pertains to creating a dashboard to showcase information pertaining to parachain auctions. Two layers of data presentation are proposed:

  1. Presents information about the PLO proposals, event data and earnings/revenue.
  2. Slow bid details - including bidders, owner, bonded $dot.

My take on the proposal is that it is worth it an API is made public. Only a dashboard limits the usage to the specific service provider. The resources required also need to be looked into vis-a-vis estimated cost.

Lawyer to Verify Legal Names

Jonathan Kleiman is a lawyer in Toronto and wants to offer his service as a notary to verify legal names. Polkadot users have to send him two photo IDs and make a short video call to him to confirm the identity.

One problem might be that this might only work within the Canadian legal system when it comes to law enforcement.

Mobile Signers
There are not enough mobile wallets for the Polkadot ecosystem because of a distinct lack of mobile equivalents to our browser extensions which ensure security. Even the Polkadot signing solutions are significantly lighter than Ethereum’s - the signer doesn’t require any connection to a node endpoint, it is necessary ti create new tools for signing solutions.
One solution could be the idea to create a page that stores encrypted keys in localstorage, You can load this page in an iframe and connect with the signatures. This solution ensures that the user can use their security model, including a page that is hosted on localhost with a self-signed certificate. This would the most secure option.

This is a proposal to compensate a community member. For discord moderation and assiting platform users. It’s very interesting because in crypto this is starting to not really be a big deal. To me it’s a bit of a reminder that most of the world has no idea about these things. It creates a new way to manage labour efforts. I don’t think we will truly know how well it works for a couple years. Just like the early internet it will be intering to see what sticks and what we laugh about someone even trying in the future.

#76 Proposal: Parachain Lease Offering Dashboard

https://kusama.polkassembly.io/treasury/76

I think the proposal wants to have a more transparent way of seeing the status of the parachain slot and auction situation with a UI so every one can see what is going on. So para chain auctions can be more meaningful and engaging.

Kusama governance concerns
The proposal was as follows: the Kusama council posted a debrief of a town hall call to discuss a proposal about the deployment on Kusama of a common good parachain with high perceived value. In the proposal slides, it’s mentioned that the proposal under discussion is actually a revised proposal, not the original proposal submitted by the project. The first proposal was for a more familiar launch configuration: a parachain for Kusama at first, and a distinct parachain for Polkadot once parachains launch there.

It appears to me that the conflicting resolution between the council and both communities is fairly contentious and competitive. An invisible vote having been done without assembly knowledge a decision cast without fair voting but perceived of high value in the Kusama group, displaying a strong parachain vote of value for Kusama. An interesting debate I am sure this matter will be resolved through a democracy investigating evidence and a proposal of options going forward that favor both Polkadot and Kusama.

this proposal will allow OnFinality, which is a shared-node API service for Kusama, to allow geologic routing, which allows it to more quickly access notes in the Kusama network throughout the world to maintain the network, they claim this would allow more web developers to utilize their service for buidling dApps or other applications on Kusama.
I don’t see what could go wrong, it just seems like a simple protocol to make data transmission more efficient and strengthen the integrity of their service.

Referendum proposal 111:
The intention of the referendum is a short-term reduction in validator count.

This was proposed on Saturday by Rob H. (Parity developer) as a potential measure to minimize the issue we have been seeing with validators since the new runtime upgrade.

The intention of the referendum is a short-term reduction in validator count. Once the underlying issue is resolved he suggested a proposal to increase the validator set by 100 every era (6 hours) until back at 900. That would take us back to 900 within 36 hours of the follow-on referendum passing.

  • Parachain Lease Offering (PLO) is a new mechanism to achieve high security and interoperability for the Polkadot/Kusama blockchain network.
  • This proposal on Polkassembly states to Develop a subpage PLO Dashboard on the HashQuark website to follow up the status of the parachain slot and auction situation, so that all people can easily get this information at any time, anywhere.

#76 Kusama PLO
The PLO would make Kusama more interoperable and scalable, one of the both things that it does is that it adds an auction to Kusama. Having parachain auctions in Kusama could make the network as strong as Polkadot. I think that the Polkadot ecosystem as a whole has evolved to the point where Kusama would share alot of the same traits as Polkadot.

Proposal #44

Proposal was to redenominate Kusama 100:1 and thereby bring all of the benefits of DOT Referendum #52 to Kusama. The main benefit of this change is to avoid using small decimals when dealing with DOT and to achieve an easier calculation system.

Proposal for redenomination of KSM

This proposal describes redenomination of KSM by a factor of 100. The idea is to avoid using small decimals when dealing with KSM and to achieve an easier calculation system.

This proposal did not pass. The workload was accidentally misjudged and the parachain rollout is currently of greater importance. https://kusama.polkassembly.io/referendum/103

#78 Kusama integration in Rotki - Milestone 2/2

The Rotki team would like to integrate with Kusama. Rotki is a portfolio tracker, accounting and analytics tool that respects your privacy by ensuring that your data is stored encrypted locally on your computer. By integrating with Kusama, it would allow balance queries, transaction querying and eventually staking information on the Kusama blockchain. They already finished the first of two intended milestones, and this proposal is done in order to carry on with the second milestone of the integration. In this second milestone Rotki intends to accomplis the following:

-Perform transaction history query for the imported addresses
-Detect if any of the user’s addresses are actively staking and if yes show how much profit they have made
-Add the staking information in the Rotki UI staking component.
